Is Disability the Social Organization of Impairment? Four Documentaries and Some Notes from Epistemology and Social Theory

Abstract

This article presents four documentaries in which the life experiences of people who live with situations related to disability are narrated: Mundo Alas (2009) by León Gieco, Fernando Molnar y Sebastián Schindel, Black sun (2005) by Gary Tarn, Examinated lifes (2008) by Astra Taylor y Ocho cuentos sobre mi hipoacusia (2021) by Charo Mato The aim is to disseminate these documentaries within the framework of the Research, Extension and Linkage Program “Cinema, debate and writing” located in the Faculty of Psychology of the National University of Rosario in which the research “Inclusion, accessibility and cinema. UNR Faculty of Psychology 2024-2027”. Notions of epistemology and social theory are taken as a framework of analysis to deconstruct social stereotypes about disability.
