Abstract

Introduction and objective: Most tumors of the pharynx are diagnosed by physical exploration but diagnostic imaging allows to know the origin and extensión. Magnetic resonance imaging differentiates the tissues of the nasopharynx. Our purpouse is to shown the main advantages and utilities of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis and monitoring of disease in nasopharynx. Material and Methods: Updated review in major publications in diagnostic imaging and study of the protocols in our centre we expose the utility of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the nasopharynx. Results: We expose the anatomy, wich secuences we use in our centre and the indications of diagnostic imaging technique are shown according to the pathology. Conclusion: MRI is particularly useful in assessing pathology of the nasopharynx by high resolution to assess the different tissues allowing detailed view of the invasion and spread of different injuries. It also has an important role in the post-treatment follow-up.
