Princess and Villages. Salerno, 9th-11th Centuries

Abstract

In the documentary research of the Lombard southern Italy, two case studies can be used to study the relationship between princes and ruralsocieties: Nocera in the 9th Century and Cilento in the 10th and 11th Centuries. The comparison between these two cases can be used to show both the differences between two rural societies included in the same political environment, and the princes’ ability to change strategies and tools in order to adapt to different circumstances and situations.
