La gratitud al adversario como recurso en la construcción del relato político: el caso de Libanio y Gregorio Nacianceno a propósito del tratado de paz de 363 d.C.
Resumen La inesperada muerte del emperador Juliano durante la retirada del ejército romano en plena campaña militar en Persia (363 d. C.) desembocó en la elección de Joviano como nuevo emperador en un contexto muy complejo que se resolvió con la negociación de un tratado de paz. Dicho tratado garantizó la vuelta a suelo romano del ejército a cambio de ciertas cesiones territoriales a los persas entre las que destaca la ciudad de Nísibis. Desde el primer momento, el tratado fue instrumentalizado por autores paganos y cristianos como recurso para atacar al rival y legitimar posiciones políticas propias en un momento en el que resurgía con fuerza la competencia religiosa, sobre todo en la parte oriental del Imperio. En el punto álgido de esta dialéctica, tanto el pagano Libanio como el cristiano Gregorio de Nacianzo acabarán recurriendo a un argumento idéntico, la gratitud hacia los persas, para salvar la reputación de Juliano y Joviano, respectivamente.
