SUMMARY: In 1991 the Spanish Teacher Training Schools initiated a new plan of studies which included the specialized training of prospective primary teachers of musical studies. Before that moment, the struggle for an official recognition of this subject within the school system had been a long one, with the consequence of keeping the Spanish educational system behind the advances of other countries. This new speciality is being taught at the Teacher Training School of Avila through the Department of Music, Art and Bodily Expression Education of the University of Salamanca - the same town where music education began in 1899. Since then, and until 1970, the year when teacher training gained full recognition as a University branch, successive plans and regulations have given both form and content to this subject in Teacher Education. This article aims to summarize the history of music in Teacher Education through a look at the different curricula, names of subjects, student body and faculty involved in this subject during this period.
}, journal={Aula}, author={García Herrera, Ana}, year={2009}, month={nov.} }
