Resumen

Analizamos seis películas sobre cuatro enfermedades infecciosas que en la actualidad están en fase de remisión e incluso de erradicación por las mejoras higiénicas y los avances en el conocimiento médico. Dos de las patologías cursan en brotes explosivos con una gran contagiosidad y letalidad: el cólera, con la película japonesa Red Angel, y la peste con los films El año de la peste y La isla de la muerte. Por otro lado, revisamos infecciones que cursan con secuelas e invalideces a largo plazo como la poliomielitis con La escuela de Shiinomi y la lepra con el documental La casa es negra y Molokai la isla maldita. Intentamos valorar como se representan las enfermedades, su diagnóstico y abordaje terapéutico, así como el contexto en que se presentan y las actitudes sociales que desencadenan.
