The information contained in these two resources, available to the entire scientific community, is not only valuable for Translation Studies scholars (because they include data on their introduction in the Spanish sociocultural context), but also from a bibliographic and documentary perspective. This paper aims to explain the reasons that motivated this project, the criteria followed in the design of the databases and the different levels of analysis they offer for researchers. Through a comparable corpus (original Chinese and Spanish manuals) and a parallel corpus (Chinese originals and their Spanish translations) composed of texts from two Chinese and three Spanish companies, the macro and microstructure of this text genre are studied, as well as the most common translation techniques used for the translation of these manuals from Chinese into Spanish. The analysis shows that there are some differences between the Chinese and Spanish manuals in terms of structure, content and trend in the use of terminology, although these are not radical differences. The results show that both groups have the same preference in translation techniques except for notes on the screen (amplification). Based on the analysis of each technique and its connection with our classification of cultural references, we find that generally transculturality and the domains to which references are ascribed have more influence than the centrality of the reference in the rendering of verbal references, whereas, in non-verbal references, no priority of any of these three factors is found.</p> 2020-06-30T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright (c) Analysis of the Spanish Version of the Chinese Text of the "Platform Sutra" 2020-10-27T10:15:51+01:00 Xuanzi Cao Montserrat Franquesa <p>The<em> Altar-Sutra</em>, a reference book in Buddhism attributed to Hui Neng (638-713) which is more than a thousand years old, was first translated into English in 1933 by Wong Mou-Lam. The oldest manuscript was discovered in 1900 in Dun Huang by the English archaeologist Auren Stein. The first Spanish version was by Laureano Ramírez Bellerín (Hui 2000). Taking into account the lack of Buddhist terms in Spanish and the difficulties associated to transcribing Sanskrit, the translation techniques adopted and the intervention of the translator deserve a rigorous analysis. In a broader aspect, the comparative analysis presented in this article is not unrelated to the context of globalization. As a result, it constitutes a challenge for translators, especially when it is translated into a language (i.e. Mandarin Chinese) that does not have diminutive forms. Our research aims to fill gaps in the field of Spanish to Chinese and Chinese to Spanish translation. For this purpose, we have chosen to compare diminutives from a morphological, phonological, syntactic, lexical-semantic and pragmatic perspective. The Spanish novel <em>El tiempo entre Costuras</em> (Dueñas 2009) and the Chinese novel<em> Rana </em>(Mo Yan 2009) have been chosen along with their respective translations in order to compare the strategies used by the translators. A growing enthusiasm for learning Chinese and knowing Chinese culture has emerged in the Spanish-speaking world, especially in Latin America.
