La dinámica de un territorio: evolución del espacio rural de Jaén desde época romana hasta la repoblación castellana

RESUMEN: Este artículo estudia de manera diacrónica la evolución del territorio en torno a Jaén desde el final de la época romana hasta la conquista y repoblaáón cristíana. Gracias a este enfoque de larga duración, se pueden analizar las sucesivas transformaciones que se obsen- an en el espacio jiennense, basándose sobre todo en los datos arqueológicos y con una perspectiva en la que tales cambios se relacionan con aquellos que se detectan en el sistema social. El resultado fue una red de asentamientos cristiana adaptada a las condiciones del sistema feudal y que se construyó sobre los estratos de patrones anteriores que quedaron desfuncionalizadas.ABSTRACT: This paper studies diachronically the evolution of the territory around the city· of Jaén from the end of the Roman age until the Christian conquest and repopulation. Thanks to this long-time approach and the use of archaeological data as the main source of information, the transformations that happened in the Jaen's district during that period could be analysed and connected with the changes in the social system. The implementation of the Christian network of settlements was the result of the creation of new conditions linked to the feudalization and it was shaped over the strata of previous patterns which were abandoned.
