XVI y en el XVII dan prueba del gran éxito y valor de esta obra.ABSTRACT: Robert Estienne's works in lexicography includes three main dictionaries, the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae, reviewed and edited three times (1531,1536,1543), the Dictionarium latino-gallicum (1538) and the Dictionnaire François-latin (1539), and two other pedagogical dictionaries, drawn from the main ones, the Dictionariolum puerorum and the Mots françois rangez selon l'ordre des lettres. The very heart of this work is the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae of 1543, a big only Latin dictionary, containing quotations and patterns for writing in Latin, to be used by erudite scholars to improve their own practice of Latin language and literature. The two bilingual dictionaries aim a public of less forward scholars, but not beginners, who can use the smallest vocabularies. One of the main interest of the Dictionarium latino-gallicum and the Dictionnaire François-latin is to show some of Estienne's pedagogical ideas. Since 1531, when he tried to write an erudite dictionary when the French language, if necessary, may help to understand the Latin one, Estienne has considered French as a way to learn Latin. This idea, quite new in 1530, will be accepted only at the end of the century, but Estienne's real genius has been able to envisage this idea, and also to accept she was too innovating for 1530. So he changed his first dictionary in several and various ones, adapted to various levels of the scholars. Numerous copies of Estienne's dictionaries in the second half of XVI century and in XVIIst prove the success and great value of this work.
