¿Renovando la política o más de lo mismo? Comparando novatos y políticos tradicionales en las legislaturas latinoamericanas

Resumen

¿Los novatos, también conocidos como outsiders, piensan de manera diferente a los políticos tradicionales en las legislaturas latinoamericanas? Abordamos esta cuestión con un análisis de las opiniones de los parlamentarios a nivel individual, algo especialmente relevante en el contexto personalista de la política en América Latina. Utilizamos entrevistas realizadas en esta década con hasta 1.155 diputados en 17 países de la región atendiendo, concretamente, a las opiniones relacionadas con la percepción de la corrupción como un problema del país, el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo y la regulación estatal de la economía. Nuestro trabajo confirma la existencia de una diferencia entre novatos y políticos tradicionales, aunque esta sea solo marginal, yendo en contra del sentido común que apunta a una división más clara entre novatos y políticos tradicionales.
