Women in prison during the Portuguese dictatorship
Abstract This paper consists of three parts. Firstly, the characteristics of the repressive penitentiary and judicial politics in Portugal during the dictatorship are analyzed. Secondly, it is depicted, interpreted and analyzed the jail of Caxias, where the Portuguese women were caught during the dictatorial period. Finally, dates about number of caught women, their origin and their professional profiles are presented.
