¿Punto de partida hacia la modernidad? América Latina a finales de la Segunda Guerra Mundial

RESUMEN: A finales de la Segunda Guerra Mundial parecía que en América Latina podía llegarse a una democratización de muchos regímenes; en los ámbitos político y social hubo un claro giro hacia la izquierda, además se hizo notar una marcada militancia obrera. Pero pocos años más tarde, la apertura democrática de los distintos regímenes tocó rápidamente a su fin; el subcontinente dio un marcado giro hacia la derecha. El ensayo analiza tanto los aspectos exógenos como los endógenos que explican estos cambios y concluye que los años en torno al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial no pueden ser interpretados como punto de partida hacia la modernidad. ABSTRACT: At the end of the Second World War it seemed that many regimes in Latin America would undergo a process of democratization. In the political and the social sphere, there was a clear turn to the left^ furthermore, the workers became noticeably more militant. But only a few years later, the democratic opening of different regimes came to a rapid end; Latin America again turned to the right. The essay analizes the exogenous as well as the endogenous aspects that explain these changes. It concludes that the years around the end of the Second World War cannot be interpreted as a starting point towards modernization in Latin America.
