ABSTRACT.— Some palaeogeographic and tectonic new interpretations show the Flysch autochtonous character over the southern Subbetic is a common characteristic to the greater part of the Betic Cordillera. As well, it is deduced the subbetic basement must be formed by a malaguide-type Palaeozoic (and therefore can not be the southern prolongation of Sierra Morena). Both things implicate the no-existence of a Flysch sedimentation special área, and a basement continuity between the Subbetic (and External Rif) and the Internal Zones. Geodynamic considerations hold up this conclusión. It is proposed the Subbetic + Internal Zones block had been slided from ENE. (south of praebetic-balearic área) in the context of a generalized similar fracturation: the betic dextral strike-slip fault system. Genetically related with them, a ENE.-WSW. compressive tectonics originates NNW.-SSE. folds and inversal faults. All of them can explicate diverse characteristics of the Cordillera. The actual Betic-rifian orogen is originated by interaction of the Azores-Gibraltar transform fault (whose direct continuation on the iberian block is the betic dextral strikeslip fault system) with the mediterranean oceanic expansión (whose more advanced front to the west, at the south of that fault, is the Gibraltar Are). This interaction is driven between the iberian and african continental blocks. A new hypothesis is offered to explicate, related with this geodynamics, the neogen volcanism. It is proposed that, during the Cretaceous, when the Subbetic + Internal Zones block was leaned against the south of the praebetic-balearic área, the Nevado-Filabride Complex was subducted to the north under the Alpujarride Complex (originating the main deformation and alpine metamorphism), probable effect of the iberian block sinistral rotation. The Flysch (except the numidian sandstones) can be considered postor ogenic sediments with regard to such deformation.
