Sir Walter Scott y la literatura europea: El ejemplo de Cervantes y de la tradición cervantina
Resumen
Este artículo trata de analizar el peso de la tradición cervantina británica y europea en la narrativa temprana de Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832). A través del análisis de la reconocible presencia de elementos característicos de los emuladores británicos y europeos del Quijote durante el siglo xviii en novelas como Waverley (1814), Guy Mannering (1815) y The Antiquary (1816), se tratará de demostrar como la novelística temprana de Scott, pese a su evidente color local, posee un carácter claramente transnacional y europeo, situándose entre lo uno y lo diverso, algo que convierte al autor escocés no sólo en el padre de un tipo de novela capaz de reflejar el pasado histórico de Escocia y sus particularidades, sino también en un importante eslabón de una tradición novelística que recorre Europa desde el siglo xvii hasta nuestros días: la tradición cervantina.
