Relationships between food and literature: amidst the stoves of history

Abstract

Numerous studies have set out to address the topic of nutrition from a multidisciplinary perspective as a consequence of the celebration of the Expo 2015 in Milan. One of their most striking aspects is the link between culture and food and how the latter has assumed some values which transcend the limits of the merely culinary components and go into the scope of social, economic or religious identities, among others. The present study will analyze the way these values are visible in literature, where gastronomic references abound and their function can be enriching for the text itself. In order to conduct the analysis, we have selected the work of the contemporary Italian writer and painter Adriana Assini.
