Prologue, Handbook and Encyclopedia: Isidore of Seville’s Prooemia and Etymologiae

Abstract

This work shows, by means of the comparison of relatively similar passages from two works written by Isidore of Seville (Prooemia 1-106 and Etymologiae 6,1-2) how the same information can be displayed to fit different works (an exegetical handbook, an «encyclopedia», ¿a series of biblical prologues?) and how these different works are readapted again to fit other literary contexts.
