Notes on the circulation of Visigothic poetry in the Carolingian school

Abstract

The circulation of Visigothic poetry in the Early Middle Ages for the purpose of exemplification of many grammatical issues in scholia, glossaries, prosodic florilegia and grammars provides us with useful information about its indirect tradition and textual history. In this paper, the metrical quotations complementing a particular version of Mallius Theodorus’ De metris found in Berlin Diez. B Sant. 66 will be analysed. These additional examples show an unmistakable connection to the school methods practised and the grammars produced in Visigothic Spain.
