Exegetical Stratifications on Horace: carm. 4, 6; carm. 4, 12

Abstract

Some motifs belonging to Horatius’ late lyrical poetry willbe taken into account, in order to show how, sometimes, wrong interpretations, which crystallized in the school of Late Antiquity, gave birth to exegeses which stratified over the centuries, and how, therefore, it is important to consider the fortune of the uetus interpres together with that of the auctor.
