Completely new and rare words occurring in Pseudo-Soranus’ «Quaestiones medicinales»
Abstract Medical definitions reminding us of those in the pseudo-Galenic Definitiones medicae (and at times overlapping with them) are transmitted in fragmentary form by three manuscripts, only one of which had been known to Valentin Rose, the first and to date last editor of this text. Unsurprisingly, his edition was used for a concordance published some time ago by Olms. We can now identify two separate versions of the Quaestiones medicinales attributed, wrongly, to Soranus. While working on a new edition of the Latin text, I came across numerous interesting words, quite a number not attested elsewhere so far. These are discussed together with rare vocabulary from other late-antique sources.
