Lat. «sospes» and its family of derivatives

Abstract

Beginning from analysis of evidences pertinent to ltalic cult (Lanuuium) of Juno Sospita, I consider linguistic family derivated from word sospes. Although his etymology is still a question for scholars, semantic use of his derivatives (sospitas, sospitatio, sospitatorl-trix, sospitalis, sospito) is relevant especially to sacred language (pagan and Christian) and epistolary conventional phrases. These elements are rarely found, for the most part in authors of Late Antiquity.
