Latín vulgar y juego verbal en una interpolación de un recetario médico altomedieval

Abstract

A medical book from the manuscript Sankt Gallen, Stiftsbibliothek, 217, gives the following title for a recipe: Ad capitis dolorem pedis et capis. This article explains the couple pedis et capis as a marginal gloss introduced by a reader who decomposes the genitive capitis in two fictitious constituents, capis and pedis. This gloss is a good example of a vulgar term capus, -i (or capus, capis) instead of the classical caput, capitis.
