La Madre Naturaleza and Paz en la guerra: the lost intertext
Abstract ABSTRACT: The characterizations as well as the sexual and ideological dimensions of Paz en la guerra (1897) have their sources in La Madre Naturaleza, but only the novel of Unamuno carries to logical conclusions the heterodoxies that are semi-obscured in Pardo Bazán’s text. Paz en la guerra announces the beginning, not only of a different type of novelistic form, but also of a new kind of spirituality.
