Peer review process

Articles received are evaluated by external reviewers using the system known as "double blind". (See section "Evaluation process" in the "Submissions" section).

Open access policy

All the contents of Revista Sistema Penal Crítico are freely and immediately accessible, based on the principle that the free availability of the results of scientific research allows a wider exchange of knowledge.

No costs for article submission or open access publication (APC).

There is no charge for article submission. There is also no charge for editing or open access publication (APC).

Committed to research by new and developing country authors

The Sistema Penal Crítico Journal supports research by authors or research teams from developing countries, especially from Latin America, whose texts are presented in scientific languages, preferably in Spanish and English.

We also show our commitment to new authors from all over the world who submit articles in these languages.

Permission for self-archiving and digital preservation

Authors are authorised to publish their work on the Internet (e.g. in institutional repositories or personal web pages) always after editing (in no case before, revision, layout or even proofreading). These measures are taken to encourage the reading and citation of the article as well as to achieve a wider and faster dissemination of the published work (see The Effect of Open Access).

Revista Sistema Penal Crítico is preserved in the two main repositories of the University of Salamanca:

"eUSAL Revistas"
"Gredos".

It is also preserved in LOCKSS.

Dissemination in databases

The journal undertakes to provide the metadata in XML or other specific formats, immediately after publication in and before three months in order to encourage dissemination in databases.

Golden Road to Open Knowledge (CA/OA) in PDF

Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca, carries out the golden path of Open Knowledge (CA/OA), since 2011 being able to download the full text in PDF of the Journal Sistema Penal Crítico in compliance with the Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation.

Articles submitted will be published in English, Spanish and exceptionally in other languages.

Publication and editing ethics

Authors, by submitting their work to Revista Sistema Penal Crítico, accept the Good Practice Guidelines established by the publisher, which adhere to the international agreements set out in the COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the International Standards for editors and authors published by the Committee on Publication Ethics.

Sistema Penal Crítico Journal uses the software "Turnitin Ephorus" to analyse manuscripts for unoriginal material and papers. Authors, by submitting manuscripts to Revista Sistema Penal Crítico, are agreeing to have their contributions analysed by the software during the peer review and editing processes of the journal. Please note that articles by authors who do not adhere to these conditions will be automatically rejected.

Good editorial practices in gender equality

The journal Sistema Penal Crítico adopts the following commitments in relation to compliance with good editorial practices on gender equality:

  • Its commitment to achieving parity in its different journal bodies, as well as in the authorship of external reports.
  • The inclusion of the full names (not first initials) of the authors of published papers.
  • Adheres to the United Nations goal of "expressing oneself orally and in writing without discriminating against a particular sex, social gender or gender identity and without perpetuating gender stereotypes" (https://www.un.org/es/gender-inclusive-language/index.shtml).
  • Revista Sistema Penal Crítico recommends that authors report, where relevant, on whether the source data of the research is sex-sensitive, in order to allow for the identification of possible gender differences.

Authors publishing in Revista Sistema Penal Crítico agree to the following conditions:

Authors grant Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca the right of publication, under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) licence, which allows third parties to distribute, copy and display the article as long as they cite the authorship of the work, the publication in Revista Sistema Penal Crítico, specific issue and the pages where they found the information. No commercial benefit can be obtained.

Authors may make other independent and additional contractual agreements for the non-exclusive distribution of the version of the article published in the journal provided that:

  • they clearly indicate that the work was published in Revista Sistema Penal Crítico, the specific issue and the pages where they found the cited information.

Information from the journal will be provided to Sherpa / Romeo, Dulcinea, etc.

DORA

Critical Penal System Journal endorses the "San Francisco Declaration on Research Evaluation" - DORA.

Record the source of funding for published articles.

The funding agency(ies) external to USAL must be indicated, stating the code(s) of the project(s) in the framework of which the research that has given rise to the publication of the article has been carried out. This information should be referenced by the author in the acknowledgements in the article itself. The author in charge of uploading the article to "eUSAL Journals" must include this metadata at the time of the proposal and in the corresponding section.
