Apostates, apaches and sicario. The ancestors among the Pimas of northwestern Mexico
Abstract According to the mythical memory among the Pimas, the ancestors were strange beings who lived in the caves of the mountains and ate raw and unsalted meat. Starting from the concept of structure of conjuncture, proposed by Marshall Sahlins(1997), this paper aims to demonstrate that the events of recent history carried out by strangemen are a practical update of the cultural category of ancestor. It is a situational praxis of the meaning that implies a transformation and an update by events carried out by the apostates and the Apaches of the XVIII and XIX centuries, as well as by the current Sicarios–assassins- dedicated to drug smuggling at the present time.
