Abstract

Leadership constitutes a key element in police organizations, as it shapes the way authority is exercised, the assumption of responsibilities, decision-making, the achievement of results, and the maintenance of commitment and motivation of their most valuable asset: people. Leadership theories have evolved from classical approaches, which viewed it as an innate trait or a fixed style, to contemporary models that understand it as a competence that can be learned, developed, and adapted depending on the context and the individuals being led. The National Police, the Civil Guard, and the Spanish Armed Forces, characterized by structures operating under principles of hierarchy and subordination, a strong professional culture, the need to make rapid decisions under pressure, and the importance of their constitutionally assigned mission, apply strong and flexible leadership in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environments. Consequently, leadership constitutes a strategic pillar in the various training centers, where future commanders are prepared to acquire the necessary competencies that enable them to act effectively in the high-demand contexts inherent to police and military activity.
