Focus and Scope

Generate knowledge on issues relating to the broad spectrum of the world of communication in its many manifestations: cinema, radio, TV, digital media.

Peer Review Process

All contributions presented will be analyzed by external raters according to strict criteria of scientific quality. It is the job of the Editorial Board to issue the final decision based on the reports of the reviewers.

  • Acknowledgment of reception:  Once the contribution has arrived the Journal will acknowledge its arrival and it will be reviewed, the final decision regarding publication corresponding to the Editorial Board.
  • Peer review system:  Each contribution will be reviewed by at least two members of the editorial Board, and possibly a third one in the case of discrepancy and also by an expert in methodology.
  • Suggestions about reviewers:  Authors will be able to suggest the name of a possible reviewer they consider to be ideal for reviewing their contribution. They must indicate the reviewer's e-mail. They will also be able to indicate anybody they do not wish to become involved in the review process. In any case, there will always be another two reviewers, the final decision corresponding to the Editorial Board.
  • Communications to the author/s:  Notification of the acceptance, or not, of original articles will be communicated to the main author within a maximum of 120 days as from acknowledgment of the reception of the article.
  • Double anonymity in the review process:  the originals will not be returned and no correspondence about the contribution with the authors will be initiated. In the review process, double anonymity will be the norm.
  • External reviewers:  When necessary, external evaluators working outside the sphere of the Journal will be asked to review the contribution.

Open Access Policy

This Journal offers open access to its content, based on the principle of offering the public free access to research results and helping greater global exchange of knowledge.

No Charges for Levied Processing Contributions or for Publication in Open Access Format (APC)

The Journal does not levy charges for processing of articles, nor for editing them or publishing them in open access format [article processing charges (APCs)]

Sections of the Journal

The  Fonseca: Journal of Communication,  is divided into several sections:

  1. Editorial .
  2. Monographic articles:  In the case of articles sent for publication in a monographic issue, these contributions must be in line with a given topic, chosen by the Editorial Secretariat of the Journal.
  3. Articles.
  4. Reviews.
  5. Other contributions.

Commitment to Research Submitted by New Authors and Authors from Developing Countries

The Journal FJC  supports the research carried out by authors or research teams from developing countries, especially from Latin-America, whose texts are presented in scientific language, preferably in Spanish or English.

Permission to Self-Archive and Digital Preservation

Authors are authorized to publish on the internet (for example, in institutional repositories or personal web sites) after publication (in no case prior to the review, layout or even in the phase of proof-reading); in the event of embargo, immediately after this has expired. It is also permitted in cases in which the costs of APCs (article processing charges) have been paid to the Editorial Board. These measures are designed to foster the reading and citation of contributions and to achieve greater and faster dissemination of the published work (see  The Effect of Open Access )

The Journal can be accessed from the two main repositories of the University of Salamanca:

This Journal uses the LOCKSS system to create an archive distributed among the participating libraries, allowing them to create permanent archives of the Journal with a view to preservation and restoration.

This Journal offers open access to its content, based on the principle of offering the public free access to research results and helping greater global exchange of knowledge.

Dissemination in Databases

The Journal is committed to the provision of XML metadata or in other specific formats, immediately after publication in « eUSAL Revistas » and before three months have elapsed in order to foster diffusion in databases (Proquest, Ebsco, Elsevier, DOAJ, CrossRef/DOI) .

The authors whose articles have been published since October 2020, can see the download statistics in the article file. Those prior to that date will have to be requested from the Editorial Office.

Golden Roads to Open Access

Salamanca University Press , will implement Golden Roads to Open Access as of 2015, and it will be possible to access complete texts in PDF format of the FJC  meeting the provisions of  Enactment 14/2011, 1st June, concerning Science, Technology and Innovation .

Contributions must be original, unpublished and should not have been submitted to «Media studies»:

  • IBIC: Cinema, Television and Radio (AP); Media Studies (JFD)

Language, Identification of Text Authorship

Language

Contributions will be published in English and, exceptionally, in other languages.

Text Identification

The texts must always be identified with the following data:

  1. Title, Abstract and Key Words (+intro) in Spanish.
  2. Title, Abstract and Key Words (+intro) in English.
  3. Title, Abstract and Key Words (+intro) in the source language of the contribution.

Authority Control 

The authors must specify their affiliation:

  1. Name: Lower case
  2. Second name: Lower case
  3. Surname(s): Lower case
  4. E-mail address: institutional but neither G-mail (generic) nor similar, etc.
  5. ORCID: previously registered in  ORCID
  6. The institution: University or Research Institute
  7. Country
  8. Full postal address.

 

Ethics and Accountability of the Journal

Upon submitting their originals to the Journal, authors must commit to accepting the usual procedures in the scientific community; only originals that have not been published previously and that are not undergoing review by other journals can be accepted. Thus, the originals sent to the Journal will cannot be sent to other journals while they are still undergoing review by our Journal.

Authors must respect international norms concerning authors’ rights to the text, graphics and other materials included in their contributions submitted to the Journal for publication. In turn, the Editors, the Editorial Board and the Reviewers of the Journal will seek to maintain the integrity of the research, which -initially- is the responsibility of the authors. Accordingly, authors are requested not to engage in plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

By submitting their articles, the authors give their consent to the transfer of copyright rights, assignment of rights, declaration of conflict of interest and commitments that are acquired with Fonseca, Journal of Communication and declare that:
Through this text, original and innovative contributions are made, certifying that the work has not been published in whole or in part by any other means, nor is it being considered for publication in another journal.
The commitment to accept the rules of writing, publication, review and evaluation considered by Fonseca, Journal of Communication is acquired.
They are responsible for the content of the text they send
and of having contributed to the conception, design and realization of the work, analysis and interpretation of data and of having participated in the drafting of the text and its possible revisions as well as in the approval of the version that I/we finally submit.
They have been informed that style changes may occur from the
manuscript but that, nevertheless and in any case, the final galley proofs will be sent before the text, in case of favorable evaluation, is definitively published as an article. Committing to the acknowledgment of receipt of said galleys as well as, once verified, to give the go-ahead for their publication in the shortest possible time.
Affirming knowing that the publication of an article in Fonseca, Journal of Communication does not imply any cost or remuneration.
They declare that they are free of any personal and/or commercial association that could imply a conflict of interest in connection with the submitted article, as well as having respected the ethical principles of research.
The author accepts the transfer of property rights (copyright) of this work to Fonseca, Journal of Communication for publication under a Creative Commons license (in the manner indicated at the bottom of the main page of Fonseca, Journal of Communication: http:/ /fjc.usal.es). Therefore, the rights of edition and reproduction are ceded.

Accountability of the Journal

  • The Editorial Board will not be responsible for the ideas and opinions expressed by authors in articles published in the Journal.
  • Once an article has been accepted for publication, it is assumed that all the authors have agreed to its diffusion, the right to reproduction in any format belonging to FJC.
  • Once the article has been published, the author will receive a separatum in PDF format from the Journal in which it has been published.

This Journal adheres to the principle of transparency and good practices set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authors publishing in FJC, must agree to accept the following conditions:

The authors retain the copyright © and assign the publication rights to  Salamanca University Press , under the license  Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0) , which allows third parties the possibility of distributing and exhibiting the article as long as they cite the authorship, it publication in the Journal  FJC,  the specific issue, and the pages on which the information appears. Derived works for commercial purposes not authorized by the editorial Board are not permitted.

Authors may engage in other independent and additional contractual agreements for the non-exclusive diffusion of the version of their article published in  FJC,  as long as:

  • It is clearly indicated that the work was published in the Journal  FJC, together with the specific issues and the pages on which the information quoted appears.

The information of the Journal will be transmitted to Sherpa/Romeo, Dulcinea, etc.

DORA

Fonseca, supports the "Declaration of San Francisco on evaluation of research" - DORA .

 

Information on the specific contribution of each of the authors to the published articles

The order of signatures/affiliation in the article should reflect the effort and contribution.

 

Registration founder of articles published

The funding agency(ies) external to University must be indicated, indicating the reference(s) of the project(s) in the framework of which the research that has been given rise to the publication of the article has been carried out. This information should be referenced by the authors in the acknowledgments in the article. The corresponding author in charge of submitting the article to “eUSAL Revistas” must include this metadata at the time of the submission in the corresponding section.

Good editorial practices in gender equality

Good practice in gender equality requires that:

  • Articles should include, as far as possible, the use of inclusive language;
  • Authors should include full names (not just first initials), at least in the metadata;
  • Being aware of the protection of personal data, the journal would appreciate information on the sex of the signatory(s) in the metadata, in order to enable the identification of possible gender differences;
