Regional networks and transnational social movements in emerging patterns of collaboration and conflict in the Americas

Abstract

This article seeks to contribuye to the debate over citizenship in Latin America and to suggest some themes for further debate. After a brief review of the processes that influence the reconfigurations of citizenzship, we argue that the formal approach to the rights and duties of the citizen should be renovated and complemented with an anthropogical perspective. We also argue that the processes of globalization and societal change throw up new questions. Once these «transversal» themes have been discussed, we reflect on the principal «classic» dimensions of citizenship (civil, political and social rights) as well on the issue of the emergent eth¬nic citizenship.
