RESUMEN: La colección «IL MARE», formada por 4 novelas breves concebidas en dos diferentes momentos {L'ultima délie mille e una notte, Solitudine, limare, L'uomo nellabirintó), es una obra que incluye las experiencias intelectuales y artísticas de Alvaro del decenio 1921-1931 y que ya no abarca sólo ambientes biográficos y geográficos propios. Es una búsqueda toda personal que nunca se aleja de su Calabria, sino que une su mundo calabrés con la realidad extra europea. Se trata de la experiencia inquietante de la soledad que oprime, angustia, obsesiona, siempre abismada en la constante ilusión de una naturaleza enemiga, y que representa la enfermedad del hombre y de la entera civilización mediterránea.ABSTRACT: The collection «IL MARE», comprised of 4 short novels conceived at two different moments {L'ultima délie mille e una notte, Solitudine, Il mare, L'uomo nel labirintó), is a work that includes the intellectual and artistic experiences of Alvaro from 1921-1931 and which is not limited to his own biographical and geographical spheres. It is a completely personal quest that never moves away from his Calabria, but rather joins his Calabrian world to an extra-European reality. It deals with the disturbing experience of the solitude that oppresses, anguishes, obsesses, always engrossed in the constant illusion of nature as enemy, and which represents the sickness of man and the whole mediterranean civilisation.
